Two student teams from BUEB FIB participated in the Tourism 365 Hackathon held in Croatia between 29 September and 1 October 2025. Their task was to develop a strategic tourism development plan addressing the challenges of seasonality, which they then presented to a distinguished professional jury.
The jury was chaired by Zdravko Počivalšek, business and tourism expert and former Deputy Prime Minister of Slovenia. Other members included Simone Zagrodnik, Executive Director of the European Historic Thermal Towns Association (EHTTA), Vlata Mlakar, Head of Public Procurement and EU Funds for Krapina-Zagorje County, and Ivana Kolar, organizer of Tourism 365.
Both teams performed exceptionally well against competitors from Switzerland, Germany, and Croatia. The winning team was composed of Tourism Management master’s students from BUEB FIB: Rosina Popova, Apurba Sarkar, and Do Thi Thu Uyen, who chose Transylvanian tourism as their topic. The other team—Lola Bekbabaeva, Raisa López, and Tamás Fanni—focused on the Balaton region and received a special invitation from the CEO of Low Season Traveller to present their work at the Tourism Seasonality Summit in Rimini in May 2026.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participants, especially the winning team, whose members were awarded a prestigious six-week professional internship opportunity at the European Parliament.
