OUR MISSION

Our mission is to support first-year students in smoothly integrating into life in Budapest and at Budapest University of Economics and Business. Through peer mentorship provided by experienced senior students, we aim to guide, support, and empower newcomers as they begin their academic and personal journey.

SOMEONE TO ASK
SOMEONE TO ASK

Beyond checklists — a real person you can message when something comes up and you don't know who else to contact.

The BEE Mentorship Programme is run by both Hungarian and international students to support fellow international students enrolled in BGE’s English-language academic programmes. Whether you’re a newcomer or a returning student, the BEE community is here to help you make the most of your university experience.

The programme is open to all international and Hungarian students studying in English. First-year and newly admitted students can join as mentees, while more experienced are welcome to become mentors. For many international students, coming to Hungary means moving far from home – often for the first time. Adjusting to a new culture, navigating unfamiliar systems, and living independently, while deeply rewarding, can also be a real challenge. That’s where our BEE mentors come in. By joining the programme, students don’t have to face these challenges alone. The main aim of the BEE Mentorship Programme is to help international students settle into life in Hungary and at BGE – both socially and academically. Mentors contact their mentees even before arrival, helping with key preparations and offering advice on travel, accommodation, and university life. Some mentors may even meet their mentees at the airport and accompany them through early administrative tasks. Throughout the semester, they stay in touch, offering friendly guidance, academic tips, and support, especially during exam periods or if unexpected issues arise.

BEE is more than just practical help: it’s a community. We regularly organise cultural programmes, short trips, and social events to help students connect, learn about Hungarian culture, and have fun together. Mentor applications open each semester and are announced through CoSpace and other platforms.

The work of student mentors is coordinated by a dedicated team: four staff mentor instructors and four student head mentors. Along with the lead coordinator (instructor), three other instructors are involved in the following areas: marketing, activity organization, and administrative, academic support. Meanwhile, the student head mentors are in direct contact with the student mentors, providing guidance and support. Every student mentor is matched with around 8–10 mentees and contacts them at the start of the semester. If questions or problems arise, the head mentors are there to help.

JOIN

At its heart, the BEE Mentorship Programme is about creating a welcoming, supportive space for students navigating a new chapter of their lives. Mentors are automatically assigned to mentees, thus they become members of the community, and no further action is required. We encourage all students to take part –stay connected, get involved, and let BEE be part of your BGE journey.

„It's run by students, so they actually understand what you're going through – It feels nothing like talking to an admin office."

,,The events made it so much easier to meet people outside my course. I still hang out with people I met at the very first BEE event."

THINGS PEOPLE USUALLY ASK

What exactly does a mentor help with?

Documents, university systems, getting around the city, adjusting to life in Budapest — and just being someone you can ask when you don't know who else to contact. Your mentor is a current BGE student who's been through the same process.
